Reflections on Shot Show ’25

My first time at SHOT SHOW — my ID reading Kim Diamond | spouse, The Range LA. I spent 3 days being secretary to my husband Peter Diamond owner and general manager. Had my notebook and collected business cards. Fortunately, Peter remembered everyone we talked with and what was discussed. We walked miles each day through the convention center of Vegas’ Venetian with a bridge to Caesar’s section—- each day mapped out who and what we wanted to see but also checked out new ideas and accessories for sport shooters, police and military.

We met with nearly a dozen gun manufacturers, from CZ Colt to Glock to Ruger to Sig Sauer, to set up “range days” —- when we schedule for them to bring a selection of their guns to The Range LA for members to try out.

Peter was very excited to see Gattling guns from the Tippman Ordinance. They had a long barrel model there which is hitting the market in a few months.. and just may find its way to The Range LA?! New and varied eyes and ears were also tested, including bifocals that had Peter seeing clearer than ever. Look for samples to show up soon for all to try.

Action Target hosted a late-night get-together at the cigar lounge in Caesar’s Palace where we connected with range owners from all over the country, as well as range consultants. We stepped away for one night – my choice of drinks and dinner at Ole Red, Blake Shelton’s bar. We enjoyed amazing live music and met friendly people from all over. Like everyone at SHOT SHOW when learning we were from LA, they expressed concern about the effect of the fires on us.

Finally, reflections on some moments that stand out:

  • Meeting Third Bay owner, Bill Osborne, an inventor. Seeing his concealed folding gun reminded Peter of  a pistol invented by a mechanical engineer in the 1950’s “Whitney Wolverine”
  • Checking out missiles in the police/military areas- yes, missiles, drones, full body armor – not anything I’ve ever seen up close before.
  • Trying a version of MREs (OK Peter tried them and said the apple turnover one was good. I passed)
  • Free beer at 3pm from vendors kicking off happy hour early. Vegas, baby! Helped my tired feet continue for a few more hours.
  • Lifelike duck decoys that flap and bob. Considered one for our pool, but don’t need to attract ducks.
  • Traditions’ large selection of cannon reproductions that really shoot! Yes- birthday present ideas for Peter…
